Early signs of bed bugs

It is crucial to pay close attention to the signs. This will help you take proactive measures and avoid massive infestations from occurring. Take a look at some early signs of bed bugs below.

Marks on your skin.

Bed bugs survive by feeding blood from humans and animals. Therefore, if you wake up with red bumps or a cluster of red bumps on your skin, you probably have them in the house. If you are allergic to them, they can cause an extreme allergic reaction. In such cases, make sure to visit your doctor immediately.

Additionally, even though they are called “bed” bugs, they can also be found on couches and chairs, and anywhere humans and animals are there.

Unpleasant odor.

One or ten bed bugs would not give off a smell. However, if there is an infestation and there are hundreds of them in your house, they will create a musty smell. Bed bugs excrete a smelly pheromone from their bodies. This comes from their feces, which contain blood. However, some other pests can also produce an unpleasant odor. So, it might not always turn out to be a bed bug infestation.

Blood stains on sheets.

Even though you do not notice bed bugs feeding on you during your sleep, that does not mean they always get away. After a bug has fed itself, it becomes elongated and bloated, full of blood. Therefore, if you shift or move your body in your sleep, you could accidentally squish some of them.

They may not always die by this, but some of the blood they just fed might leak out. They appear as small and round red blood stains on your bed sheets, pillowcases, and even on your clothes.

Molted skin.

Bed bugs have five lifecycle stages before they reach maturity. During this time, as they complete each cycle, they shed their exoskeletons. Their shells come off, and new ones grow in. Therefore, you will see shells of various sizes as they grow into adult-size bed bugs from a small nymph.

What do you do after spotting the signs above?

Once you spot the signs mentioned above, the next and right step is to get expert help. Remember, professional help can ensure you do not have to face these bed bugs again.
